Why old Discord accounts have value at all

Discord launched in 2015. Accounts registered in the first few years qualify for things newer accounts cannot get, and no amount of money makes a new account old. That is the whole basis of the market — fixed, shrinking supply. The practical effects of age are:

Server age requirements. Some servers require accounts to be a minimum age before joining or posting. An older account clears those automatically.
Retired badges. Certain badges were only available during specific windows and can never be issued again.
Trust signals. An account with years of history behaves differently to a fresh registration on a platform watching for automated behaviour.

Age is necessary for value, but it is not sufficient. A 2016 account with no badges and a random username is not a valuable account — it is just an old one.

The four things that actually set the price

1. Badges, and especially Early Supporter

This is usually the largest single factor. The Early Supporter badge went to users who purchased Nitro before 10 October 2018. Discord closed it permanently. It is not tied to an active subscription, so it stays on the account regardless of whether Nitro is still paid for. Because it can never be re-earned, the supply only goes down as accounts get banned or lost. That is a genuinely different economic position from almost anything else in the account market, where supply can always expand. Other badges that affect price include HypeSquad, Active Developer, and various Nitro-tenure badges. Combinations matter more than any single badge — an account carrying Early Supporter *plus* HypeSquad *plus* a short username sits in a different bracket to one with Early Supporter alone.

2. Username quality

This is priced almost separately from the account. A short username, a real dictionary word, or a recognisable name can be worth more than the account age attached to it. Three and four character usernames are the obvious example, but a clean, memorable, pronounceable name often outperforms a random short string. If you are buying specifically for the username, say so, and price the age as secondary.

3. Whether the original email is included

This is the one most first-time buyers underestimate, and it is the difference between owning an account and borrowing one. The original registration email — commonly shortened to OGE — is the recovery route back into the account. If the seller keeps it, they can contact Discord support after your payment clears and ask for the account back. You would have no recourse against the platform, because as far as Discord is concerned the original owner is asking for their own account. An account sold *with* full email access and one sold *without* it are not the same product, whatever the listing says. Establish which one you are buying before you discuss price.

4. Moderation history

An account with prior bans, or one currently under any restriction, is worth far less and is usually worth avoiding entirely. This is difficult to verify from the outside, which is exactly why the verification window matters.

What does not add value

Being honest about this saves money:

Server memberships. These transfer with the account but are trivially replaceable. They should not carry a premium.
Friend counts. Not a meaningful signal.
Nitro currently active. It runs out. You are buying a subscription remainder, not an asset — unless it is the historical Nitro *tenure* that produced a badge.
Claimed "OG" status without evidence. The word is used loosely. Ask for the registration date, verified inside the account settings.

How to verify the registration date properly

Do not accept a screenshot. Screenshots of Discord's registration date are trivial to fake and are the single most common misrepresentation in aged-account listings. The correct sequence is: 1. Get access to the account. 2. Open the account's own settings and read the registration date there yourself. 3. Compare it to what the listing claimed. 4. Only then decide whether to confirm the purchase. That sequence is only possible if your payment is still being held while you check — which is the entire argument for using escrow on a purchase like this rather than paying a stranger directly.

Working out a fair price

There is no fixed table, and anyone offering one is guessing. The honest method is comparison: 1. Find live listings for accounts with a similar year, similar badge set and similar username quality. Not one of the three — all three. 2. Note whether each includes the original email. Exclude any that do not, or discount them heavily. 3. Look at the spread rather than a single asking price. The buying checklist

Before you pay:

Confirm exactly what is included — account only, account plus email, or full recovery access.
Ask for the registration date and agree that you will verify it yourself.
Confirm which badges are claimed and that they are visible on the profile.
Agree what happens if the account turns out not to match.

Before you confirm receipt and release payment:

Sign in yourself.
Change the password.
Change the email to one you control.
Complete a password reset independently, to prove the email really is yours.
Remove any existing two-factor authentication and set up your own.
Check the registration date in settings.
Check the badges are actually on the profile.

Only after all of that should you confirm. Confirming receipt releases the money, so it is the last step rather than a formality.

Where escrow fits

Escrow does one specific thing: it holds your payment until you confirm. That protects you against a seller who takes the money and delivers nothing, or delivers an account that does not match. It is worth being clear about what it does not do. Escrow cannot override Discord's own rules, and it cannot protect an account from platform enforcement after the sale. What it gives you is a window in which to check everything above while your money has not yet moved — and on a purchase where the main risk is misrepresentation, that window is the protection.
