Aegis Safety Monitoring with Aegis

Aegis is EscrowGuard's Aegis safety layer. It reads every message in every deal chat, looking for scam patterns — and takes action before you lose money.

What Aegis watches for

Aegis's training focuses on the most common scam patterns:

Off-platform contact requests

• "Message me on Telegram @username"
• "Let's talk on WhatsApp +1..."
• "Email me at [email protected]"
• "DM me on Snapchat"

External payment requests

• "Pay me directly on PayPal — it's faster"
• "Send to my CashApp: $username"
• "Venmo me at @username"

Phishing and credential harvesting

• "Send me your Google account password to verify"
• "I need your phone number to confirm"

Threats and coercion

• "Pay now or I'll report you"
• "I'll leak your info if you don't..."

The 3-strike system

Aegis is forgiving — once. Here's how violations escalate: 1st violation: Aegis posts a warning message in the deal chat. Both parties are notified. The violating user gets a notification. No action taken yet. 2nd violation: Another warning, more visible. The user's "AI strikes" counter shows 2/3 on their profile. Staff are notified. 3rd violation: Aegis automatically blocks the transaction. The deal is frozen pending moderator review. Both parties notified. The violating user's account may be flagged for suspension.

What Aegis does NOT flag

This is important — Aegis is tuned to avoid false positives on legitimate marketplace activity:

• Sharing account login credentials (email + password for the account being sold)
• Sharing 2FA backup codes for the account
• Sharing the recovery email/phone set up specifically for that account
• Discussing payment terms (e.g. "I'll fund escrow tonight")
• Asking normal questions about the listing

Sharing the actual account credentials is the entire point of the marketplace. Aegis knows this and doesn't flag it.

Staff can never be flagged

Aegis explicitly skips messages sent by ADMIN or MODERATOR users. Staff are trusted and don't go through the warning system.

You can ask Aegis for help

Type @Aegis in any deal chat to invoke the Aegis assistant. Aegis can:

• Explain the current deal state and what happens next
• Recommend whether to open a dispute
• Translate messages between languages
• Summarize the deal timeline
• Answer questions about escrow rules

Aegis's responses appear in chat with a violet "Aegis AI" badge.

Privacy

Aegis reads messages only within deal chats — not in private messages, not in your listing descriptions. Messages are processed in real time and not retained beyond the chat history itself.

The future

Aegis is constantly learning. Every flagged message, every dispute, every successful deal makes the model smarter. Over time, false positives decrease and detection of new scam patterns improves. Trust the system. When Aegis warns you, take it seriously.
