Maximize your sale price and minimize disputes. The complete seller's preparation checklist before listing any account.

A well-prepared account sells 3x faster and at a 20–40% premium. A poorly prepared one attracts scammers, lowball offers, and disputes. Here's how to prepare any social media account for sale.

Step 1: Audit your account (1 week before listing)

Clean up content

  • Delete or unlist controversial posts that could trigger future strikes
  • Remove any copyrighted music/video (especially YouTube)
  • Fix broken links in your bio/description

Document everything

Take screenshots of:
  • Subscriber/follower count (with date visible)
  • Analytics dashboard (last 90 days)
  • Revenue dashboard (if monetized)
  • Account verification badge
  • Account age (Settings → Account Info)
  • Any strikes or warnings (so you can disclose them honestly)

Step 2: Decouple personal info (3–5 days before)

Create a fresh recovery email

Set up a dedicated email like '[email protected]' and use it as the account's recovery email. This is what you'll share with the buyer — your personal Gmail stays private.

Regenerate 2FA backup codes

Generate new backup codes (don't reuse ones from your personal accounts).

Reset the password

Set a temporary password you'll share with the buyer. They'll change it after transfer.

Remove linked payment methods

  • Disconnect your PayPal/bank from the YouTube AdSense (if the buyer will use their own).
  • Disconnect any linked credit cards from Discord Nitro/Boost.
  • Remove phone number (if possible) or set up a transfer-dedicated phone.

Step 3: Prepare transfer documentation

Write a transfer checklist

A simple text document listing: 1. Login email + temp password 2. 2FA backup codes (the new ones) 3. Recovery email (the dedicated one) 4. Steps to take over (specific to the platform) 5. Any caveats (e.g. "AdSense needs to be re-linked") This goes into the deal chat when the buyer funds escrow.

Screenshot the "before" state

Take a screenshot of every important setting page. If the buyer later claims the channel was different from the listing, you have proof.

Step 4: Set realistic expectations

Don't overprice

Check completed sales of similar accounts. Pricing 20% above market = no buyers. Pricing 50% above = your listing looks scammy and gets reported.

Disclose all issues

  • Strikes? Disclose.
  • Recent demonetization? Disclose.
  • Subscriber count artificially boosted in the past? Disclose.
  • Linked AdSense account with $200 pending? Disclose (and decide who gets it).
Honesty prevents disputes. Disclosed flaws lower the price by 10%. Undisclosed flaws trigger disputes that cost you the entire sale.

Step 5: List the account

Write a compelling description

Include:
  • Exact subscriber/follower count
  • Niche and target audience
  • Monthly revenue (if monetized)
  • Account age
  • Why you're selling (legitimate reason)
  • What's included (account, custom domain, brand assets, etc.)

Upload 4–8 high-quality screenshots

  • Channel home page
  • Analytics (last 28 days)
  • Revenue dashboard
  • Verification/settings page

Step 6: Communicate well

When buyers message you:
  • Respond within 6 hours. Slow sellers lose deals.
  • Answer questions honestly. Even "yes, there's one strike from 2022."
  • Don't pressure. Let the buyer inspect.
  • Stay on-platform. Never suggest moving to Telegram.

Step 7: After the deal

  • Wait 24 hours after confirmation before withdrawing funds. Some buyers remorse-message; you want to be reachable.
  • Remove your admin access if you forgot to.
  • Don't try to reclaim the account. EscrowGuard will ban you.
A prepared seller closes deals in 1–3 days at top dollar. An unprepared one waits weeks and ends up in disputes. Choose wisely.
