How to transfer website ownership safely

A website transfer has several moving parts. These are the steps to do it safely through EPICSWP's escrow.

Step 1: Prepare the assets

As the seller, get these ready:

• the domain transfer authorization code
• hosting account logins
• a full backup of the site (files and database)
• SSL certificate details
• logins for third-party services (CDN, analytics and so on)

Step 2: Start the escrow

The buyer starts the deal from your listing and pays. EPICSWP holds the payment.

Step 3: Hand over the assets

Share every login and file in the deal chat:

• the domain auth code
• the hosting login
• the database dump
• the source code
• the documentation

Step 4: The buyer checks everything

The buyer logs in, tests the site and changes the passwords. Domain transfers can take days, so the buyer should wait until it's done before confirming.

Step 5: Confirmation and payment

When the buyer confirms receipt, EPICSWP releases the money to your wallet.

Safety tips

• Use temporary passwords that the buyer changes straight away.
