The phone number

Ranked play needs a unique phone number on the Steam account. Valve said in 2017 that a number removed from one account waits 3 months before another account can use it. Make sure you can queue ranked after the swap.

Rank and behavior

Ask for the rank medal screen, the behavior and communication scores and any low-priority notice. Penalties stay with the account.

Accounts above 8500 MMR

Since March 2025, players above 8500 MMR must register an official name to queue ranked, and Valve says the name can't be changed. Ask whether one is registered.

Cosmetics on the account

Check which Arcanas, Immortals and Battle Pass items are really there. Timed drops can't be traded at all.

How to buy a Dota 2 account safely

1Pick the Dota 2 account you want and put your questions to the seller in the deal chat before paying.
2Click Buy with Escrow Protection and pay the price plus the 6% escrow fee. EPICSWP holds the money; the seller doesn't receive it yet.
3The seller hands over inside the deal chat, which is checked for common scam patterns.
4Replace the Steam email, password and Steam Guard with yours, move the phone number, and check you can queue ranked. Do all of it while your payment is still held.
5Confirm receipt once everything matches, which releases the payment to the seller. If something is wrong, open a dispute and a moderator decides.

Selling a Dota 2 account

List the rank medal, behavior score, official-name status and the Arcanas and Immortals on the account.

Steam locks trading for 15 days after an authenticator is removed, so time the handover. Don't describe the sale as approved by Valve, because it isn't.

Create a free listing

Valve's Steam Subscriber Agreement says an account is strictly personal and can't be sold, and Valve's Dota posts warn that people caught selling accounts or boosting can lose their main account too. Valve also bans shared accounts. Escrow protects the payment only.
