How to sell a social media account and get paid safely

If you've grown a niche Instagram page, a TikTok profile with a following, or an X account with strong engagement, there may be a buyer for it. The hard parts are setting the right price and getting paid without being scammed. Escrow takes care of the second. This guide covers how to value the account, where to list it and how escrow protects the payment.

Check the platform's rules first. Meta's Community Standards forbid buying or selling Instagram accounts, TikTok's terms forbid transferring an account without TikTok's permission, and X's rules forbid buying or selling accounts. Any of them can suspend an account after a sale. Escrow protects the payment between you and the buyer; it can't protect the account from the platform.

Why sell a social media account?

An account with a loyal, engaged following is worth real money to brands and marketers. Selling turns the work you've already done into cash. You no longer have to post or manage the community, and you can put the money into something new.

The hard part is getting paid fairly and safely, which is where escrow comes in.

How to value your social media account

Work out what the account is worth before you list it. Price it too high and buyers move on; too low and you leave money on the table.

What buyers look at

  1. Followers matter, but their quality matters more. 10,000 real, engaged followers are worth more than 50,000 bots.
  2. Engagement rate is likes, comments, shares and saves per post, compared with the follower count. Buyers will compare yours with similar accounts in the same niche.
  3. The niche affects the price. Accounts in niches advertisers pay more to reach, such as finance, tech, health and luxury, sell for more.
  4. A long record of good, regular posts suggests the account will keep performing.
  5. If the account already earns money from affiliate links, sponsorships or product sales, show the numbers.

Setting a price

Per-follower rules of thumb vary too much by niche and engagement to be reliable. Look at what similar accounts in your niche are listed for, then adjust for your engagement and any revenue you can prove.

Tools like Social Blade or HypeAuditor can produce engagement reports. Share them with buyers to back up your price.

What raises the price

  • a library of exclusive content that comes with the account, such as templates, presets or videos
  • sponsors or partners who are willing to keep working with the account after the sale
  • a niche with little competition, such as an unusual hobby or a B2B sector
  • a clean history, with no violations and no reach restrictions

A checkmark doesn't add to the price, because it doesn't transfer. On X the blue checkmark is a paid X Premium subscription tied to the owner's payment details, and Meta Verified is tied to the owner's ID.

Where to list your account for sale

The marketplace you choose affects who sees the listing and how safely you get paid.

Marketplaces that support escrow

  • Fameswap lists Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and X accounts.
  • PlayerUp focuses on gaming and social media accounts.
  • Swapd lists digital assets, social media accounts among them.
  • EPICSWP is a marketplace for social media and game accounts where every deal is paid through escrow. Listing is free. The buyer pays the escrow fee, and you pay a withdrawal fee (3% at the time of writing) when you take money out of your EPICSWP wallet.

Private sales

You can also sell through forums, social media groups or your own contacts, but the risk of being scammed goes up. Insist on escrow, such as an EPICSWP deal, so the buyer's payment is held before you hand anything over.

How escrow helps you get paid

Escrow is mainly about safety, but it also makes buyers more comfortable paying your asking price.

1. Buyers trust the deal

When buyers know their money is held until they've received the account, they have less reason to hesitate or haggle, and more reason to pay what you're asking.

2. The money is held before you hand anything over

Without escrow, a buyer could pay with a method they can reverse, get the login, and then claim the money back. With escrow, the buyer pays EPICSWP first. You can see the payment is held before you share the login in the deal chat, and it's released to you when the buyer confirms receipt, or when a moderator decides a dispute.
